I'm Nathan Schram — a Melbourne-based digital marketing consultant working with Australian small businesses, charities and community sports clubs. This page is for journalists, editors, producers and podcast hosts: who I am, what I can speak to, and how to reach me quickly.
One thing worth knowing up front: I'll say when something in my own industry is overhyped or not worth a small business paying for.

Nathan Schram is a Melbourne-based digital marketing consultant and the founder of Nathan Schram Digital, a solo consultancy working with Australian small businesses, charities and community sports clubs. His work covers websites, SEO and local search, AI search (how tools like ChatGPT and Google's AI results describe a business), Google Ads, and Meta and LinkedIn ads — all explained in plain English.
Before going solo, Nathan spent 14 years in marketing, sales, business development and product roles at companies ranging from early-stage startups to ASX-listed — so he has sat on every side of the table: the buyer evaluating vendors, the seller landing deals, and the operator making the numbers work afterwards. He also builds and ships his own software tools, which keeps his advice grounded in how these systems actually work. He is happy to say when something in his industry is overhyped.
// What I can comment on
Three areas, with an opinion.
Practical, plain-English commentary grounded in hands-on client work — not vendor talking points. SEO, Google Ads and web design sit underneath all three.
Small-business marketing & waste
What's worth paying for, what's broken, and what to fix first — websites, SEO, Google Ads, and the claims agencies make to small operators.
AI search & discoverability
How ChatGPT, Google's AI results and other answer engines describe businesses — what genuinely moves visibility, and what's hype.
Charities, clubs & community groups
Digital marketing on tight budgets: what volunteer-run organisations should — and shouldn't — spend their time and money on.
Questions I can answer well.
- Is AI killing SEO — should a small business still bother?
- How do I get my business mentioned by ChatGPT?
- Are Google Ads worth it for a business my size?
- How can I tell if my marketing agency is actually delivering?
- What should a small business fix before spending more on marketing?
- Do Google reviews and Maps matter more than my website now?
- What digital marketing actually works for charities and sports clubs?
- What's a realistic marketing budget for a solo or micro business?
What I won't do: comment on individual clients or their industries, share confidential detail, or stretch past what I actually know. If a story needs someone better qualified, I'll say so — and suggest where to look.

- How to make sure ChatGPT and AI Overviews mention you
AI search, explained for Australian small businesses
- How to tell if your Google Ads are actually working
A 15-minute self-audit against Australian benchmarks
- Local SEO for Melbourne businesses: a practical 2026 guide
Google Business Profile, reviews, and Map Pack visibility
- Projects — things I've designed, built and shipped
Working software, not slideware
